SIRSIDynix inconsistent messages picked up by Horizon customer.

Dave Pattern in his blog post identifies an inconsistency in the messages coming from SIRSIDynix about Horizon upgrades.

11th January from Gary Rautenstrauch, SirsiDynix CEO:

… Horizon 7.4.1 and HIP 3.09/4.13 releases are clear evidence that SirsiDynix remains committed to the Horizon platform ……. SirsiDynix will continue to upgrade the Horizon platform ….. This commitment to our worldwide customer base is important to us

(Emphasis is mine)

Recent communication to UK customers about this upgrade:

International has seriously considered the option of taking this release ….. at this time we have decided that we cannot commit to the amount of work necessary on an International basis.

(Emphasis is mine)

Dave doesn’t say who the UK communication is from, but one can’t help wondering who is coordinating communications in this area.

  1. Martin Musgrove Says:

I think Dave’s communication comes from the remains of the SIRSIDynix (Ok - SIRSI) UK Office. As a certain member of the Royle family would say - Commitment? - My Ar*e! Vista Equity Partners didn’t see the point in Horizon 8.0 and so they killed it. There are still a few bugs to be worked out in Hz 7.x and HIP (the OPAC) and I’m honestly surprised they’re fixing those, except for the fact that HIP 4.x was such a pile of cr*p they had to do something about it.

You may want to check on the Exodus from Provo which seems to be happening - Over which Vista is keen to drasw a veil.
