Another Open Competition
The Knight Foundation has launched the 21st Century News Challenge which invites us to “Turn the web on its head. Show us how online news can help people improve their lives and shape their communities”
They are offering a total of $5 million in 2007 to individuals, organizations, or businesses that can show their ideas will transform community life. Surely something from libraries, librarians, and/or library users must be in there somewhere. They are running the competition in several categories with a catch-all Open category:
The open category is here to make sure we don’t miss working with the next “Google guys,” just because an idea didn’t fit a category.
Although the competition is primarily around news in the 21st century, this should have much relevance in the library world.
Another refreshingly open competition designed to foster innovation with very few entry restrictions!
Thanks to OCLC’s Alane for the heads up on this.
