Proposal Guidelines
First, read the FAQ.
Proposals need to be up to 6 pages of A4 at font size point 10 or above. There are no strict formatting guidelines for the proposal, however you need to include:
- An overview of the scope of the project including stated aims, including how much money you are bidding for.
- Clear demonstration of how the project uses technology to support the cause of Open Education.
- Details of the project deliverables and how you intend to ‘open source’ them. You should include details about how you intend to license and disseminate each deliverable.
- A brief introduction of each party to be involved with the project and their affiliations. In particular, you need to disclose affiliations with any members of the project review board.
- Explanation of what equips the parties involved to bring the project to a successful conclusion.
- A deliverables schedule showing the dated milestones of the project (this may be very simple for smaller projects)
- For proposals bidding for more than £5,000 of funding, we would like to see a proposed staged payment schedule. For example, think about money you would need to receive up front to start the project and funds that you could receive as the deliverables are completed and delivered.
- Success criteria for the project; how will you evaluate whether or not the project has been successful and met its stated aims?
- Include a statement covering sustainability of the project outcomes once it is complete.
- Value for money justification. The pool of funding is limited; how will your project justify its use of funds and will the outputs demonstrate value for money for the wider community?
Make sure you refer to the important dates page to ensure you submit your proposal on time.
Unfortunately, your proposal will be rejected without review if:
- Does not or is found to, in our opinion, accurately identify affiliations and potential conflicts of interest. If in doubt, disclose.
- It is longer than 6 pages
- Does not cover each of the above 10 points – no matter how briefly
Ensure you reference external sources where they support your submission.
We may modify these requirements on the basis of the community consultation we are holding at ALT-C in September – so be sure to check back before submitting your proposal.
As part of submitting the proposal, and in the event of an award being made, you agree to Talis publishing on our website:
- An overview of the project including stated aims and deliverables.
- The total amount of the award made by Talis to the project.
Finally, and to ensure the maximum impact of the funding, proposals may not include any indirect cost recovery (also known as overhead or Facilities and Administrative (F&A) costs).
Proposals should be emailed to incubator@talis.com.
